Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel York is pleased to provide enriched learning opportunities for post-secondary students through two distinct placement streams:

Service Delivery and Experiential.

As beneficiaries of placements ourselves, the staff at BBBSPY recognize the importance of meaningful on-the-job learning.  For that reason, we hold our placement program to a very high standard and work with each student in the achievement of their individual learning goals.

Service Delivery Placement

Post-Secondary Students in the fields of Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Social Service Work, and other related areas of study are invited to apply for a Service Delivery Placement. This placement permits students to participate in a multitude of learning opportunities, including casework responsibilities and direct interactions with children and youth through various mentoring programs. Service Delivery Placement Students receive on-the-job skills training, capacity building, and ongoing coaching from members of our Service Delivery Team.  This placement opportunity enables students to connect theory to practice by learning about our organizational context and systems and social issues that impact young people in our community.

This placement is best suited to individuals required to attend 2-3 days of placement per week from September to April or May to August.

Experiential Placement

Post-Secondary Students looking for practical experience with children and youth are invited to apply for an Experiential Placement. These placement opportunities involve participating in one-to-one and group mentoring programs both in the community and in school settings.

Experiential Placement Students will integrate knowledge acquired through their post-secondary program with meaningful engagement of young people in their community. This opportunity is best suited to individuals required to complete between 3-10 hours of placement or practicum per week from September to April or May to August. Programs of study may be related to human services but are not necessarily so.
