As we celebrate Black History Month we would like to recognize and congratulate our Match of the Year – Colette King and Donee
Colette and Donée have been matched in our BCAC Mentoring program for 8 years now and they truly have a beautiful friendship. As a Big Sister, Colette is exceptional, her commitment and unconditional support of her mentee never wavers. Colette describes her Little Sister Donée as “warm-hearted, easy going and very polite. At 16 years old now, Donée truly has one of the warmest spirits – and always comes with a smile on her face and thoughtful reflection to share.” Donée feels that her match has made her “feel confident and brave”. Colette adds that, “It’s been especially beneficial for Donee and I to be a part of the BCAC program because it strongly enhances the positive black models in our society. Being able to attend black focused events; outings; cultural activities adds a depth to our shared experience; things we can discuss and a spring board to seeing ourselves with a positive role and space in the society.”
